Only a few weeks to go now before Glastonbury Calling. Thanks to everyone who has been sharing and promoting the event so far this is helping towards building an audience to the benefit of all acts. If you haven’t been sharing the event can you please do so and do what you can to help the rest of our festival community.

Next week we will put together Facebook groups for each venue for information and kit share to make life easier for all of you. Please email Karen vwpik1@yahoo.co.uk with the person you would like added to these groups.

We also need all of the plus ones for each band or artist member plus your full line ups to vwpik1@yahoo.co.uk by Sunday 16^th February as we will be handing out the guest lists at a meeting with our venue managers the following day. After that we won’t be able to add any late plus ones.

Happy New Year 😊

Thanks for agreeing to play Glastonbury Calling 2020. We have a cracking line up again this year and I think this is going to really establish the event.

All of the band members/ acts get a +1 so if you can let Karen know at vwpik1@yahoo.co.uk who you would like to add including band members we can add your nominated guests to the list, also please let us know if you are bringing a sound engineer so we can provide them with a pass. As for kit we will start chat groups for each venue on Sunday 9^th Feb so if you could provide Karen with a nominated person to add to the group that would be great.

Please come along and enjoy the day as a whole and discover some new acts and give them your support. We really appreciate all the acts that make a day of it and join in the atmosphere of the day.

It would really help if you could share and promote the event on your pages as this is what really helped towards making the festival such a success last year. I have added poster links in the email.

I will be writing a blog with each of the venue details and timings all included so can you please get back to me with any details you would like written about your act.

Glastonbury Calling 2020 Guide

Highlights from 2019

Hi, welcome to the 2020 planner. This is the place with the line ups and times of each venue so you can plan your day out for the Saturday day of the event. Well that’s if you’re like me and really like to know who, when and where you will be watching.If you’re of the disposition of going with the flow in this guide you can still use this to listen or watch the acts to get a flavour of each venue.Glastonbury Calling is in it’s 5th year (happy birthday to us) and we are really pleased with the success of the first four and thanks to you for joining in our event to show off to you some of the established and up and coming acts in the local area. We have 5 venues this year and your wristbands will get you into all of these. Just be aware that if there is someone you really want to see please get there early as it’s a multi venue event and we may have to operate a one in one out policy once a venue is full. Please be aware each venue has it’s own individual age restrictions which are dictated by the venue with Tor Leisure which is a more family oriented venue.

Bocabar at The Red Brick Building- Friday DJ Night (Silent Disco)

•The Red Brick Building Centre (RBBC) is an exciting project on the edge of Glastonbury, which is creating managed and affordable workspace for micro & social enterprises venues for education, arts, events and community support for Glastonbury, Street and surrounding villages.
•The layout and size of this once derelict but remarkable building means that the RBBC has the scope to build a dynamic enterprise and community hub that is responsive to local needs and opportunities.

Imprints are a Shanty-Folk-Rock cider fuelled explosion from Bristol. With songs covering everything from Space Pirates to Zelda's political leanings, from the undead partying to waking up drunk and doing it all over again, Imprints will guarantee foot-stomping fun and the mightiest and fieriest of jigs

Stacked with some of Glastonbury’s finest musicians and headed up by Sarah Griffiths.

Duncan Batey 18.00-18.45

Winner of the 2012 Somerset Songwriter competition, Duncan released his first EP, Blindsided in February 2013. Accompanied by Daniel Shaw on upright bass, Gerry Barnett on cello & Caelia Lunniss on violin, his beautifully crafted epic acoustic songs explore love & hope in the face of adversity. New album Little Black Classics is out now.

K Passa 23.15-00.00

In 1988 Simon Edwards (ex Boothill Foottapper & some pals put together an accordian led folk rock band called K-Passa, with the expectation of having a bit of fun—they enjoyed the enviable reputation of being the THE live band to see in the South West of England.
Local recognition led to their appearance on the main stage at the 1992 Glastonbury Festival
 Their blend of Folk, Cajun, and Rock wins a grassroots response to their fiery performances, and has garnered this UK-based folk/roots rock band a huge audience following across Europe and the UK.
Recently reformed, with a new rhythm section, Edward’s voice, songs and accordion playing are still the foundation for K-Passa’s position as a favourite live folk-based act in Bristol, England. 

Broken Bones Matilda 22.00-22.45

Broken Bones Matilda create an enigmatic hybrid of sound, influenced by 70’s rock to the early 90’s surge, post grunge bands they grew up with. Described as Nick Cave meets Fleetwood Mac, expect raspy leading vocals & soaring harmonies over well crafted songs.

Pattern Pusher 20.45-21.30

Pattern Pusher are a fun-loving three piece that will fill you with warm summer hooks.
They are a quirky band. A keys player with soaring vocals, a bouncing bassist and a drummer full of disco beats. Their crusade of happiness has earned them a loyal fan base, accolades from BBC Radio 6, and a string of festival shows; now lining up on the same bills as their idols. 
Pattern Pusher’s highlight of 2019 has to be performing at Michael Eavis’ 8000 cap Pilton Party before Supergrass and Wolf Alice after they won a multi heat contest judged by the man himself.

China Bears 19.30-20.15

China Bears formed in Somerset in 2015 by twin brothers Ivan & Frazer . The  line up was completed after meeting James & Dean at university. Drawing influence from bands such as: The National  & Snow Patrol China Bears create misery anthemic indie combining ambient guitars, choral vocals & raw lyric writing.
They’ve currently released 3 singles independently with aorplay from Huw Stephens on BBC Radio1, Steve Lamacq on BBC6, John Kennedy on Radio X. They’re going places catch them whilst you can in smaller venue

John D Revelator     18.15-19.00

Glastonbury 5 piece acoustic smile poppers. John, They rock out a range of folky, bluesy, country, punky originals which detail and poke fun at diverse subjects as heartbreak, love, politics, drug abuse and dead footballers with catchy toe tapping tunes and well crafted lyrics.

Fey Militia 17.00-17.45

Fey Militia are an energetic indie alt pop band known for having songs "everyone could relate to on some dark level" and "extremely tight timing and a great stage presence for what really is quite a young group." (cheers Bristol 24/7)
Adorned in floral prints and the most fabulous of headdresses, Fey Militia are set to storm 2020 with new music and new shows. 

Wilding 15.45-16.30

An indie band from Bristol with huge respect. Front man George write great songs with fantastic lyrics and has released some great materiel. He runs his tunes by XTC Legend Andy Partridge before release.

No Love Lost 14.30-15.15

No Love Lost music is piano and guitar based, ranging from original, catchy melodic songs to slow ballad based rock. Lyrics are mature and reflect common life stories and experiences often based around characters:
'Jimmy stays at home tonight, lying with his head down, pillow held so tight. He contemplates the things she said, how could she turn so cold and turn so fast?'

Lice 22.15-23.00

We first saw Lice in 2016 when they supported Iyabe and when they played on Idles tour.
We are lucky to have them play their first gig for several months with a warm up for their upcoming
2020  tour, which will see them begin to reveal the vital new material they have been developing over the past year - envenomed against the anaemic conventions of this landscape 

Oh! The Guilt 21.00-21.45

Three piece noisy dream pop band from Bristol. 
Sometimes loud…….Sometimes quiet
Sometimes tender…..Sometimes angry

Last One Home 19.45-20.30

Last One Home are a stage-shaking, up and coming pop rock band with huge anthem-like tracks, massive sing along choruses with high energy live performances. Winners of the  ‘Music Expo’ prize at the Glastonbury FM Songwriting Competiotion 2018 ,they are a much loved band of The Glastonbury Calling team & we welcome 
them back for a second time

No Violet 1830-1915

Bristol-based 4 piece, No Violet, powerfully retain your attention with their enthralling performances of their idiosyncratic blend of fuzz-infused grunge/alt rock and semi-contorted math rock. Ellie (vox), Pete (drums), Rhys (guitar), and Kerry (bass) captivate their audience through a manipulating dynamic range that echoes early Pixies with an added split personality disorder.

Defaced are a Hardcore/Rap Metal band from Somerset who combine heavy riffs, fast raps with lyrics that 
challenge the struggles of life & a D.I.Y approach

White Lion Parade 16.10-16.50

Progressive, melodic Post Rock band from Bristol. With influences  such as Soundgarden, Nirvana & Deftones

All Smiles in Wonderland 15.10-15.40

Based In Bath/Bristol, ASIW are punk’s cousins. Blending tangible, delicate vocals with powerful distorted guitar & pacing drum rhythms, they fuse bleak lyrcis with up-lifting melodies to create a melancholic tone fuelled by emotion & drive

Hell-ios 14.10-14.40

A Bristol based two piece Alt-Rock outfit. Blending genres and bringing energy with their raw, authentic sound .
Formed in the winter of 2018. Hell-ios is a way to create new, exciting music without limitation

Hawthorns is a small independently run B&B Hotel with Bar and restaurant. Curries are their speciality, and host regular, quality acoustic music events. A UK wide reputation as a music supporting venue.

Bristol dreamscape pioneers Alesund (pronounced Aww-le-sund)
Released their debut EP Shift & Flux on 15th Feb 2019, Shift & Flux is a collection of beautifully crafted songs with a sparse, Nordic undercurrent. Immersive sound, rolling drums, intricate guitar work with soaring vocals. Alesund are an atmospheric force from the trip hop heartland that create expansive, emotive & exhilarating sound worlds

Fly Yeti Fly 21.30-22.15

Fly Yeti Fly are the Wiltshire-based acoustic duo Lorna Somerville and Darren Fisher. Blending sensitive vocal harmonies with intricate guitar arrangements, mandolin and harmonica, the duo weave songs and stories from their travels together, with a sound that is reminiscent of the late-’60s folk scene. Now living on their canal boat on the Kennet & Avon canal, their music is heavily influenced by the natural world and life on the water. 

Stone Cold Fiction 20.15-21.00

Formed in 2015, Stone Cold Fiction hail from South West England and quickly made a name for themselves by delivering a unique blend of thick, riff-infused rock in its varying genres.
After releasing debut EP “III”, the trio followed through to a successful year with multiple national tour supports and a host of festival appearances, highlights of which includeD; BBC 6 Music Festival, Dot to Dot and Tramlines.

Karl Ficarotta 19.00-19.45

Another highlight is Karl Ficarotta a driven, diverse and forward-thinking singer/songwriter. His music combines honest lyrics with powerful melodies and groundbreaking arrangements, echoing the work of magnetic artists like Damien Rice, Ryan Adams, Neil Young or Matt Corby, only to mention a few.

Matt Owens 17.45-18.30

Matt is a British singer-songwriter & musician, who came to prominence as one of the founder members of indie-folk band Noah and the Whale & for fronting Rock’n’Roll band little Mammoths His debut solo album “Whiskey & Orchids” was released this January

AL O’Kane 16.30-17.15

Al O'Kane is a West Country troubadour who folds Jimi Hendrix into the sound of Celtic resistance rock n' roll. Part Waterboys, part Velvet Underground, Al's music is a cry for action nestled into a fiery acoustic blend.
Having just been crowned winner of the Shrewsbury Folk Festival Open Mic competition AND made a finalist in the Glastonbury FM Songwriting Competition, 2019 swiftly became a momentous year.

Steve Henderson 15.15-16.00

Steve Henderson & Polly Carroll started rehearsing in March of 2019 with a view to performing the songs from Steve’s latest release Passerine. These rehearsals went so well that the duo began arranging songs from Steve’s back catalogue for two voices and pretty soon had enough material to start gigging.
In the past 6 months Steve & Polly have performed about a dozen gigs including The Cheese and Grain (supporting the Osmonds), The Sheppey, Cider Barn, Radford Mill Festival, and The Seven Stars in Bristol.

Shoun Shoun 14.00-14.45

As winners of Glastonbury Fm songwriting competion 2019 we welcome Shoun Shoun  with there expansive sound, blends dream pop & garage rock with the urban ennui of Dietrich & The velvet Underground. The band’s urgent groves are laced  with conspiratorial voclas & lysergic flurries of violin & sinth

Ruth Blake 1300-1345

Introspective and intriguingly multi-faceted, self-taught singer-songwriter-guitarist Ruth Blake was born in North London, grew up in Coventry and is currently blossoming in the mists and vales of Avalon and Somerset. Her music seems to blend the numinous with the oh-so-very-human, effortlessly dancing between hypnotic guitar riffs and tender poetry with rambunctious offbeat grooves and playful wordsmithery.

Fonzy & Company 22.45-23.30

Coming from a die hard Ska, Punk, Metal background, the song writing comes from an intimate & unique place. Whilst the band portray an indie/alt/”American” vibe, the band remain open to ideas & different aspects of rock. Fonzy & Company takes you to a place where music used to be fun & celebrate the generation that appreciates & admires a time where real musicians used to dominate the world.

We are a Heavy Rock/ Party Metal? band from Wells, Somerset. We have been together since January 2016
We have a wide variety of musical influences ranging from Nu-Metal, Post Punk, Southern to 80's Rock 

The Model folk 20.15-21.00

The Model Folk are a six piece band, hailing from the deepest darkest reaches of North Somerset. Our sound is an eclectic cocktail of influences that could loosely fit in the folk canon. Live shows are full of self-deprecating humour, romance, pathos, audience engagement and interaction; this creates an intimacy which feels more akin to a family get together than a gig. Their music is created with clarinet wizardry, trumpets, trombones & accordion; topped off with epic harmonies; you may go not knowing the songs, but you end up wondering why on earth you hadn’t 

Lazy Daze 19.00-19.45

Glastonbury band that perform their own inique genre of ‘heavy folk’, blues & an underpinning of soul.
All songwriters, with influences from The Beatles to Bruce Sprinsteen the trio produce beautiful songs woven together by heart-felt harmonies & memorable melodies,

BE Cooling 17.45-18.30

B.e_cooling” (aka Brian) is a  bluesy, folk-rock with a dash of country soul, singer-songwriter from Toronto, Canada.
His distinctive Canadian wit, honed during a life which stretches from coffin-maker to school teacher, provides a singular foundation for strong melodies and evocative lyrics which have an edge that is not easily forgotten....

An unusual band, playing original funky, soulful and slightly folky music. 

Evie Cosgrove 15.20-16.00

Born and raised in the South West of England, teenage singer-songwriter Evie brings an honest and youthful outlook to her songwriting with stripped backed piano tracks touching on sweeping subjects from Breaking Hearts to Brexit. 
Writing new music at a breakneck pace & with her debut EP “The End of Summer” on the way, Evie is building a following playing live across Somerset with town centre busking, festival and support slots as well as open mics.

The Legendary Snake Snake Snake 14.20-14.55

The Legendary Snake Snake Snake blend mariachi, European, punk and rock and roll rhythms into a strange Somerset melting pot, creating a heady mix that's raucous and delicious.

Young singer/songwriter from the Yeovil and Street area

A proper old school punk band who have just released their self titled album. We normally start the Saturday quietly but this time it will begin with a roar. They have had impressive support slots with The Subhumans, 999 and UK SubS recently amongst others and will blast through their set for you with intensity.

Angel Mel Selector was born and bred in the heart and soul of the Bristol music scene. Coming from the West Country, with her roots planted in Reggae, Drum & Bass and Trip Hop, later branching into other areas of underground dance music genres, such as Acid Jazz, Broken Beat and Deep and Soulful House. Referring to herself as a selector, she specialises in playing long sets where she can weave her magic and take her listeners on an adventure
